The Match of the Century was played between England and the Mighty Magyars also known as the Golden Team on November 25, 1953. England suffered a devastating defeat at Wembley Stadium. The Hungarian national football team, the world’s number one ranked team, the Olympic champions and on a run of 24 unbeaten games, won 6-3.
English football legend Sir Bobby Robson told about the game: “We saw a style of play, a system of play that we had never seen before. None of these players meant anything to us. We didn’t know about Puskás. All these fantastic players, they were men from Mars as far as we were concerned.”
