A Nazi military research base located in the Russian Arctic had to be evacuated due to a disease caused by contaminated polar bear meat, Russian scientists say.
The base, which was set up beyond the Arctic Circle in 1942, was named Schatzgräber (“Treasure Hunter”). Russian scientists who have recently excavated the base claim that servicemen had to leave the facility by submarine because of an infectious disease.
he managed to bail out and was rescued by a US submarine.
