The one-eyed vice admiral’s ultimate victory

“Thank God I have done my duty”, one of the last sentences murmured by Vice Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson inside the English flagship Victory. He was already certain about two things: the English fleet had completely defeated the French-Spanish armada, and he was going to die within minutes. Hero of the greatest naval battle of the 19th century and founder of the British naval hegemony, be breathed his last having a clear conscience at 4:30 PM on October 21, 1805. After the battle, it became clear that Napoleon had lost his chance to invade England.
