The hunt for the Southern continent
There have always been ‘Holy Grails’ for explorers: journeys to be undertaken or destinations waiting to be discovered that drove many to take to the road. Circumnavigating Africa, sailing around the globe, and finding the Northwest Passage were all such goals. Theories about a southern continent date back to as far as the days of Antiquity, and when advancements in sailing finally made it possible for certain powers to brave the southern seas, several explorers and adventurers set out in search of the legend.
