The sharpshooter genius is born

On this day in 1860, Annie Oakley, one of the most talented markswomen in American history, is born in Ohio.
”I was eight years old when I made my first shot,” Oakley remembered later, “and I still consider it one of the best shots I ever made.” The victim of one of Annie’s best shots was a squirrel who ended up in a stew pot.
Annie Oakley joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show in 1885. Shooting a cigarette out of her husband’s mouth soon became one of the most spectacular performances of her that galvanized the audience.
