Less than ideal bodyguards
The third prime minister of India was about to leave her residence not much before 9:30 AM. It was October 31, 1984. In his office nearby, Peter Ustinov was waiting to interview her for his documentary. When the 67-year-old politician stepped out into her garden, two of her bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh unexpectedly opened fire on her. The former shot 30 rounds into Indira Gandhi, the latter three shots into her stomach. After the woman fell over dead, they both dropped their weapons and shouted: “We have done what we needed to, now you can do what you have to!”
