Edinburgh, 1998. A young screenwriter enters a bookstore and quickly selects a book at random from amongst the many thousands. Taking it to the counter she pays and leaves. Her spontaneous purchase – merely something to read on an upcoming vacation – had taken less than a minute. The story the book told, however, was to change her life.
