On this day: Pope John Paul II hit by bullets

On May 13, 1981, Pope John Paul II was shot four times by Mehmet Ali Ağca. The Pope, who was seriously wounded in the attack, later forgave Ağca who was sentenced to life imprisonment after a short trial.
