The Twin Towers in peril
“Yes, I am a terrorist, and proud of it as long as it is against the U.S. government and against Israel, because you are more than terrorists; you are the one who invented terrorism and using it every day. You are butchers, liars and hypocrites”, Ramzi Yousef, mastermind behind the terrorist bombing against the World Trade Center, which took place on February 26, 1993, stated in court on January 1998.
Although terrorists hoped that the North Tower, which should have collapsed first from the effects of the blast, would demolish the South Tower, in reality, both of the towers remained standing. However, the attack claimed the lives of 6 and injured more than 1,000. Similarly to five of his fellow suspects, Yousef was sentenced to life imprisonment. Only Abdul Rahman Yasin, the seventh suspect, could avoid justice; he is still on the run.
