Farewell at Pennsylvania Station

Eminent photographer and photojournalist Alfred Eisenstaedt secretly took these photos of soldiers saying goodbye to their wives and lovers at Pennsylvania Station, New York in April 1943. Eisenstaedt used a Rolleiflex camera he did not need to hold at eye level, so the parting couples did not notice him taking pictures of them. The iconic series first appeared in the February issue of Life magazine in 1944.
