The resting place of the pharaoh
The most famous pyramids in the world which are known by almost everyone can be found in Egypt; in the land of the pharaohs around 145 pyramids have been discovered. The best known is the Great Pyramid of Giza – the last one remaining of the seven wonders of the antiquity – which is one of the largest in the world.
The ancient structure, second only to the Great Wall of China in terms of size, was – contrary to general belief – built by free workers and not slaves, and they were proud to have taken part in the creation of the pharaoh’s memorial. Another appealing factor was that the tired workers were provided with meals rich in meat and beer. Even according to the most careful estimates, 2–3 tons of meat disappeared from the dinner tables each day.
