The longest-reigning monarch in Japanese history Michinomiya Hirohito was crowned on November 10, 1928. During the first part of his reign Japan saw glorious victories in the Far East from the year of 1931 but after more than ten years of successful expansion the Imperial Japanese Army was forced to retreat and finally lost World War Two. After the collapse, Hirohito was lost power and his divinity was deprived following the American occupation, but in spite of these he remained one of the most significant figureheads of Japan until his death in 1989.
